The Civil Engineering (CE) Department of Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) organized a combined event featuring the fresher’s reception for the students of 2023 and 2024 series, a farewell ceremony for the students of the 2019 series, and the prize-giving ceremony of the annual sports competition.
The event was held on Sunday (13 July) afternoon at the central auditorium of the university, organized by the Civil Engineering Association. The program was presided over by Professor Dr. S. M. Zahurul Islam, Head of the Civil Engineering Department. RUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. S M Abdur Razzak attended the event as the chief guest and delivered his speech.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor said, “Engineers are responsible for ensuring public safety. They make sure people live in comfort and security through their work.”
He added, “RUET students are not just degree holders; they are expected to become innovative thinkers, socially responsible individuals, and ethically committed engineers. I wish the freshers a promising journey ahead and the outgoing students a bright future.”
Professor Dr. Md. Robiul Islam Sarkar, Director of the Students' Welfare Office, addressed the program as the special guest. A welcome speech was delivered by Professor Dr. Anupam Chowdhury, Treasurer of the Civil Engineering Association. Among others, former professors of the department Iqbal Matin and Md. Abdus Sobhan, and Professor Dr. H. M. Rasel, Director of the Planning and Development Office, also spoke on the occasion.
The Vice-Chancellor welcomed the newly admitted students with flowers and handed over crests to the outgoing students. He also distributed prizes among the winners of the annual sports competition.
Teachers, students, officers, and staff members of the Civil Engineering Department were present at the event. The program concluded in the evening with a vibrant cultural performance.
